An excellent way to be green friendly is to buy reusable bags that you can take and use when you go shopping or do other things that require the use of such bags. Besides saving money, you will also be making a positive contribution toward saving your environment. Believe it or not, in so doing, every contribution toward that goal, no matter how small it might seem, does help to preserve what is left of our once beautiful World.

Years ago, people did bring their own bags to the food store. Those bags are called shopping bags and they are made from cloth. Today, if everyone used such bags, just think of all of the tens of thousands of tons of plastic waste that wouldn’t go into our garbage land fills.

You see, those so called degradable containers do take many years to degrade. Also, as the population increases, an even larger quantity of that kind of waste will require more and more space within those land fills.

Energy costs money and in places where such garbage is burned, that much more energy will be required to burn up all of those disposable bags. From an environmental and cost standpoint, those costs now out weight the convenience of having your friendly merchant provide a disposable bag for your use when buying products from their place of business.

Another excellent use for reusable bags is the collection and disposition of yard waste that falls from your trees, grass clippings after you mow your lawn or branches trimmed from your bushes. When it comes time for the collection of such waste, the friendly collector of such yard waste is more than happy to empty those bags for you if so instructed. As a matter of fact, in my community, our yard waste collectors do empty the contents of all kinds of bags and they leave those empty bags at each collection point along their route.

In that regard, cloth bags last a whole lot longer than those plastic bags that are designed for such use. Those plastic bags are expensive and it is more than likely that you won’t be able to refill those bags more than twice before they too have to be discarded.

After having purchased such cloth bags you will soon discover other truly worthwhile uses for then, as I did. Like me, you will soon discover that your investment in those cloth bags will save you a whole lot of money, time and energy and make a positive contribution to the preservation of our environment.
